What is hebrew gematria?

The practice of hebrew gematria dates back centuries. It is a system of assigning numerical values to words and phrases, based on the numerical value given to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

The practice of gematria was used to assign deeper meaning or spiritual power to Biblical text and Jewish mysticism, which valued the written word for its power and impact. The original text of both the Bible and the Kabbalah were said to contain coded messages through gematria – hence, passing wisdom down through generations.

Knowing gematria can deepen your understanding of sacred texts, such as Proverbs or Psalms. For instance, if a scripture passes a certain number when analyzed using gematria – it can signify an important message within the 4-word phrase. It is believed that each Hebrew letter has its own energy; when combined in a sequence it creates an even more powerful essence to be explored.

Gematria is based on making connections between words in various languages while also drawing on numerology methods. Each letter is assigned a numerical range from 1-600, with some letters carrying a higher numerical range than others since they appear more often in Hebrew writing than others do. For instance, aleph (א) (ת) has a numeric value of 1, while lamed (ל) (מ) equals 30 and so forth up to 600 for tav (ת). Numerical values for words and phrases are determined by adding the number value assigned to each letter contained within them. This can provide deep insight into divine powers that are hidden from our perceptions but lay at the heart of our consciousness if we care to look for them..
